How To Best Use “That Feeling”

For me one of the biggest challenges in sales is pushing through the glory of success. You know; that beautiful feeling when you’ve closed the sale. All parties are happy; ecstatic. You can feel the waves of energy flow through your body and you can’t get that smile off your face. You’re “in the zone”.

Awesome – enjoy it!

But here’s the thing… the trick is to ride that wave. To lock in that feeling and use it to push through the glory of success. To use the feeling to target new business. Use it to tackle that job, assignment or task that you may have been avoiding. Use it to call that customer who hammered you last time you spoke to them.

I call it a “purple patch” and I love that feeling. It’s one of things that drives me.

Of course there’s another side. The danger of falling into the trap of riding the wave without taking action. You bask in the glory. You relax. “Hey, I’ve exceeded my target, maybe I might take it easy for a while. Maybe I might take some time off. Maybe play some golf, go fishing.”

Be wary my friends, because taking this approach is extremely dangerous. Complacency is the enemy of sales. It is the silent destroyer lurking in the darkness. If you’re not aware of it, it will envelop your success and make it a thing of the past. You’ll be back at the starting line in next to no time. That beautiful feeling will be lost to an empty sales funnel.

The key is to bottle that feeling of “being in the zone” and to take action. Use it to help you constantly move forward. Couple it with both consistency and persistence you’ll have a winning formula.

Enjoy “that feeling”….

Take out:

  • On a daily basis take time to reflect on what the feeling of success feels like.
  • Take time to enjoy the feeling; then act.
  • You’re only as good as your last sale.
